Detailed Solution

The splitting of white light into its component colours is called the dispersion of light.
When white light goes through the prism, it splits into seven colour components, e.g.:- violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. In the dispersion, a pattern is formed in which red is at the top due to the larger wavelength and violet is at the bottom due to the shorter wavelength.
On the other hand, refraction is the change in direction and speed of light when entering from one medium to another. While reflection is the returning of light from a surface, and scattering is the phenomenon of absorbing some light by the dust or gas particles in the atmosphere.
