Detailed Solution

The Planning Commission was a body set up by the Central Government that conducted economic surveys and chalked out programmes and policies to tackle economy-related issues. It is now known as NITI Aayog.
The Planning Commission was established in 1950 by the Late Jawaharlal Nehru and was inspired by a similar model by the Soviet Union. The planning commission was known for its Five Year Plans. However, it was replaced by NITI Aayog in the year 2015. NITI stands for National Institution for Transforming India, and it was created to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. It is a policy think tank of our government. The planning commission had no representation of state governments, but NITI Aayog provides a platform for interaction with states. The planning commission followed a top-down approach, whereas NITI Aayog followed a bottom-up approach.
