Detailed Solution

The plasma membrane of a plant cell is pulled away from cell wall when kept in hypertonic solution as the external solution has less water potential than the cell protoplast. This phenomenon is called plasmolysis. When kept in isotonic solution, there is no net movement of water and cell remains flaccid. When kept in hypotonic solution, water gains entry into the cell from external solution and the cell becomes turgid.
