Detailed Solution

The political parties are given unique symbols as identification. The political parties are allotted special symbols by the Election Commission of India (ECI), a three-member constitutional body. It also provides recognition to parties and looks into all matters regarding the conduction of elections in the country. Political symbols are pictorial symbols introduced to the political parties to act as an identification tool for the country's illiterate population. It helps them easily identify the party they want to vote for. For example, the Indian National Congress (INC) has “hand” as its political symbol, whereas it is “lotus” for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Similarly, all parties have definite political symbols allotted to them.
