Polymer used as a substitute for wool in making commercial fibres is polyacrylonitrile.
It is prepared by polymerisation of vinylcyanide in presence of FeSO₄/H₂O₂. It is an addition polymer.

          (1) Melamine:

• Used in the manufacture of unbreakable kitchenware.
•  Condensation polymer of melamine and formaldehyde.
  (2) Nylon-6,6:
  It is a condensation polymer monomer: equimolar quantities of adipic acid and hexameth-ylenediammine.
•  These are widely used as textile fibre.
  (4) Buna-N:
•  Copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile. 
• It is synthetic rubber.
•  Used in making soles of shoes, adhesives.
