Detailed Solution

The Poona Pact of 1932 was signed between B.R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi. Ambedkar raised the demand for the reservation of seats in educational institutions and separate electorates to the legislative councils. When the British government conceded to these demands, Mahatma Gandhi began a fast until death. Gandhi believed that a separate electorate would only increase social discrimination and slow down the process of integration of the Dalits into society.
