The Poona pact was signed between Gandhiji and Dr. BR Ambedkar. In September 1932, Dr. BR Ambedkar formed an organisation called the Depressed Classes Association. The scenario for the Poona pact originated in the second round table conference. Dr. B R Ambedkar demanded a separate electorate for Dalits, but Gandhiji opposed this. When the British government supported it, Gandhiji started a hunger strike. At last, Dr. B R Ambedkar accepted Gandhiji's opinion and signed the Poona pact. With this, Depressed classes will have reserved seats in the general electorate's provincial and central legislative councils.
