1) Children- this category falls below 15 years and is economically unproductive. Food, clothing, education and healthcare are to be provided to children.
2) Working age- people between 15-59 years fall under this category. They are economically productive and capable of being biologically reproductive.
3) Aged or elderly- people above 59 fall under this category. They may be retired or working voluntarily but are not eligible for employment through recruitment.
The working population is responsible for providing the food, clothing, education, and healthcare that the economically inactive population demands. The quantity and proportion of a population in the working-age, old, and child groups are important drivers of its social and economic structure. Because these groups do not produce, the number of children and the elderly influences the dependency ratio.
