Detailed Solution

The Portuguese discovered a route to India from Europe.
It took place during the reign of King Manuel I from 1495 to 1499, under the command of the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama. On May 20, 1498, two years after leaving Lisbon, Portugal, Vasco da Gama arrived in Calicut, Kerala, on the west coast of India. This was the first time a European had come to India by sea. Therefore, Vasco da Gama is believed to have found a route to India. He sailed along the west coast of Africa, and his expedition circled the Cape of Good Hope, making numerous stops in Africa before arriving at the Calicut trading post.
