Detailed Solution

The Poverty Line is estimated periodically by conducting Sample surveys.
These surveys were conducted by National Sample Survey Organisation, NSSO for short. A sample survey is a statistical term, and sample surveying involves selecting and surveying individuals for a particular purpose. Data is collected from a sub-part of the population and is then used to estimate the characteristics of the entire population. In the case of the Poverty Line, a minimum level of income and consumption is estimated after sample surveys, and then it is used to determine the level of poverty.
