For easy administration, India was divided into three presidencies; at that time, India was undivided (Pakistan were not separated); no one person could administer the whole region at a time. So they divided India into three presidencies: Bombay, Madras and Calcutta. Hence Britishers divided the whole of India into three presidencies for proper administration.
