The printing press system was perfected by 1448.
The printing press was modified because the number of handwritten manuscripts produced was insufficient to meet the rising demand for books. Moreover, copying was a costly, time-consuming, and complex endeavour. There was a huge need for even faster and less expensive text reproduction. Only the development of brand-new print technology would make this possible. Accordingly, innovation took place in Strasbourg, Germany, where Johann Gutenberg created the first printing press known to exist in the 1430s. Gutenberg developed this system in 1448. The Bible was the first book he printed.
