Detailed Solution

The process of breakdown of rocks by the action of wind, air and water is known as weathering.
Weathering is the process of breakdown of larger rock particles by the action of wind, air and water. These physical processes and also the chemical and biological agents lead to the conversion of larger particles into smaller ones and finally, they are converted into the soil which forms the upper layer of the earth's crust and it is rich in organic matter, minerals and water. When natural calamities occur then the small rock particles get detached from the mountain and come down to the ground surface. Under the action of extreme heat and pressure, they get converted into very fine particles which are known as soil and this layer is suitable for plants to grow.
