Detailed Solution

Concept- Rusting of iron happens when iron (Fe) is converted into hydrated iron oxides in the presence of air and water, i.e. rust. Rust is hydrated ferric oxide, and its chemical formula is Fe2O3.xH2O.
Rust is an iron oxide that is usually red in colour that is created when iron and oxygen react redox in the presence of water or air moisture. Several types of rust can be distinguished visually and by spectroscopy, and they form under various conditions. The oxides, sulphides, sulphates, and other salts of the metal slowly cover the metal's surface due to the attack of atmospheric gases. Corrosion is the process of converting metal surfaces into these compounds by the action of gases in the air.Corrosion is the gradual transformation of metal surfaces into metal salts such as oxides and sulphates. So, we may say that rusting of iron is corrosion because, during the rusting process, iron metal is progressively eaten away by oxygen and water, resulting in the conversion of iron to its oxide.
Hence, option 3 is correct.
