Detailed Solution

The producers of wool and silk in England protested against the import of Indian textiles in the 18th century. The English market was flooded with Indian textiles till the 18th century. The English weavers could not compete with the delicate texture of the Indian market. England's wool and silk makers protested against the import of Indian textiles into England. They demanded the imposition of tariff barriers on Indian imports to discourage their entry into English markets. They wanted the government to protect the local industries of England. In the wake of the protest, the government of England passed the Calico Act in 1720 to ban the use of printed textiles in England. This act was known as the "Calico Act."
