Detailed Solution

Let the roots of x26x+a=0 be α, 4β and that of x2cx+6=0 be α, 3β

4αβ=a and 3αβ=6a=8

 First equation becomes

x26x+8=0  x=2, 4

4β is either 2 or 4, but 4β2 (since, other roots are given integers)

α=2

(i.e.) common root is 2
