The Queen of Kittur in Karnataka state was Keladi Channamma, who belonged to the Keladi kingdom of Karnataka. She was the first Indian woman who led the armed rebellion against the British East India Company in 1824. She was the daughter of a merchant of the Lingayat community coming from the Kundapur district and only acquainted with the household world. Later, she was married to Raja Mallasarja. She was also considered a folk revolutionary and was well known for her bravery.
