The radicals and moderates were divided in 1907.
In 1907, Congress split up. The Moderates were opposed to the use of boycotts. They believed it included using physical force. Following the split, the Moderates began to rule the Congress, with Tilak's supporters operating from the outside. The radicals encouraged widespread mobilisation and a boycott of British institutions and commodities to fight for Swaraj. In addition, some people started advocating revolutionary violence to remove the British from power.
