In the current Rajya Sabha, there are 245 members. The members of the legislative assembly, or Vidhan Sabha, elect 233 members; unlike Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha is not directly elected by the people. The president nominates the 12 members for their contributions to art, science, literature, and social service. Rajya sabha members have a tenure of 6 years.
