The Rashtrakutas came to power under the leadership of Dantidurga.
Dantidurga led the Rashtrakutas to victory over the Gujarat of Malwa and the Chalukyas of Badami in 753 CE, bringing them to power. He then proceeded to seize Srisailam, Kosala, and Kalinga. Between the sixth through the tenth centuries, the regal Indian dynasty known as Rashtrakuta ruled over a sizable portion of the Indian subcontinent. The earliest known Rashtrakuta inscription describes their reign from Manipura, a city in Central or West India, and dates to the seventh century.
