Detailed Solution

The reaction between an acid and a base that forms salt and water is called a neutralisation reaction.
A neutralisation reaction occurs when an acid and base interact to produce salt and water. The name of this reaction indicates that the features of the reacting acid and base cancel each other out. For example, farmers use lime to neutralise acidic soils (calcium oxide). Strong acid and strong base reactions produce a salt that is neither acidic nor basic, nor neutral. For instance, sodium chloride and water are produced when HCl (hydrochloric acid), a powerful acid, combines with NaOH, a powerful base.  The reaction can be given as:
HCl+NaOHNaCl+H2O
Hydrochloric acid + Sodium hydroxide → Sodium chloride + water
