The red color of the Sun at the time of sunrise and sunset is because:

Red has the longest wavelength and hence the lowest frequency among the colours that make up white light. Wavelength is inversely related to scattering. Red is therefore the colour that is least dispersed overall. Red therefore reaches our eyes during sun rising and sun set while all other colours diffuse.
