Detailed Solution

The Referendum issued in 2002 granted Parvez Musharraf an extension of 5 years.
In a bloodless coup on October 12, 1999, the Pakistan Army and General Pervez Musharraf acquired control over Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's civilian government. He deposed a democratically elected government and called himself the country's 'Chief Executive'. Later, he changed his title to President, and in 2002, he led an organised referendum to grant him a five-year extension of his period of rule. This referendum was based on deceit, corruption and fraud. It was a 'Legal Framework Order' amending Pakistan's Constitution. The President could also dismiss the National or Provincial Assemblies with this proclamation.
