The resolution for Purna Swaraj was adopted at the Lahore session of the Indian National Congress. The Lahore Congress, presided over by Jawaharlal Nehru, formally declared the necessity for a 'Purna Swaraj,' or full independence for India, in December 1929. It was announced that January 26, 1930, would be celebrated as Freedom Day when the people would commit themselves to the struggle for total freedom. But these festivals did not attract much attention. So, Mahatma Gandhi had to find a way to negotiate this vague concept of freedom with the practical issues of everyday life.
