The resolution of Purna Swaraj was adopted at the Lahore Congress Session in December 1929.
This Lahore session was particularly significant. Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru raised the Indian tricolour flag during this session on the bank of the Ravi river. Progressively losing their influence were the liberals and moderates who advocated for a constitutional order within the confines of British dominion. Under Jawaharlal Nehru's leadership, the Lahore Congress formalized the demand for "Purna Swaraj," or complete independence, for India in December 1929. It was decided that January 26, 1930, would be observed as Independence Day and that people would swear to fight for unrestricted independence on this day.
