The Revolution of 1905 was the rehearsal for the Revolution of 1917.
On 9 January 1905, when the procession of the workers reached the Winter Palace it was attacked by the troops of the tzar. Hundreds of workers were killed, and about 300 were wounded. The incident came to be known as Bloody Sunday. It started a series of events throughout the country and violent disturbances. There were strikes all over the country. Universities closed, and lawyers, doctors, engineers, and middle-class workers formed their unions and demanded a constituent Assembly. They walked out and started complaining about the lack of civil liberties. There were disturbances also in the army and the navy. People were prepared for the Revolution.
