Detailed Solution

Garibaldi founded the revolutionary militia ‘Red Shirt’.
Giuseppe Garibaldi (1808–82) is arguably the most well-known among Italian liberation fighters. He came from a family involved in the coastal trade and served as a merchant mariner. Garibaldi first crossed paths with Mazzini in 1833. Later, he joined the Young Italy movement and participated in a republican rebellion in Piedmont in 1834. To combat the Papal States, which had a French garrison stationed there, Garibaldi led an army of volunteers called Red Shirt to Rome in 1867. Unfortunately, the combined French and Papal forces proved to be more than a match for the Red Shirts.
