is -5.
A value of the variable that answers the equation is the variable's root in a one-variable equation. Every one-variable equation that has constants as coefficients and positive integer exponents as its exponents has an equal number of roots. In other words, the degree of the equation and the number of roots are equal.

2 y = 5 (3 + y)

2 y = 15 + 5 y

2 y - 5 y = 15
