Detailed Solution

The Rowlatt Act of 1919 was implemented by the Viceroy Lord Chelmsford. This Act was officially known as the Anarchical and Revolutionary Crimes Act. The motive of the Act was to repress the political activity of the Indians. This Act gave authority to the British government to arrest anybody on suspicion of terrorist activities for two years without trial. It permitted the police to search a place without a warrant. The Rowlatt Committee passed the Act under the chairmanship of Sir Sydney Rowlatt. In response to this, Gandhiji organised a satyagraha known as Rowlatt Satyagraha.
