The Rowlatt Act of February 1919 refers to legislation passed by the Imperial Legislative Council, the legislature of British India. This act was also known as the black act in Indian history. Rowlatt Act empowers the British government to arrest and imprison suspects without trial. Under the Rowlatt act, many revolutionaries were arrested and detained without any explanation. The Rowlatt act was the reason for the biggest massacre ( Jallianwala Bagh massacre) because more than 16000 people were gathered at this bagh to oppose the Rowlatt act.
