Detailed Solution

The Rowlatt Act was the main cause of the Jallianwala Bagh incident. Gandhiji launched the Rowlatt Satyagraha, and mass demonstrations took place. Local leaders were arrested from Delhi and Amritsar. The Rowlatt Act gave enormous powers to the police to arrest anyone without trial. People in Amritsar reacted against the arrest of their leaders like Satyapal and Saifuddin Kitchlu. The British colonial government imposed martial law in Amritsar. On 13th April 1919, General Dyer fired on thousands of innocent, harmless people who had gathered in the Jallianwala park on the occasion of Baisakhi. The news of the Jallianwala Bagh incident shook the entire country.
