Detailed Solution

The ruler of France during the revolution was Louis XVI.
Louis XVI of the Bourbon dynasty was the King during the French Revolution. However, while he was the ruler, France's economy suffered because of his enormous debt and reckless expenditures. By the mid-1780s, France was on the edge of declaring bankruptcy. Moreover, as the drought worsened, the population started to mobilise in opposition to the government. Hence, between 1787 and 1799, France was shaken by a great revolution. As a result, Louis XVI  and his family retreated to the eastern boundary in June 1971. But he returned insisting on carrying out his royal responsibilities and bringing his family with him. Thus on August 10, Louis XVI was detained and removed from office.
