Detailed Solution

The ruler of Iran, Nadir shah attacked Delhi in 1739.
Emperor Nadir Shah,  Shah of Persia (1736-1747) and founder of the Persian Afsharid dynasty of Iran, invaded northern India, finally attacking Delhi in March 1739.
His army easily defeated the Mughals at the Battle of Karnal and would eventually capture the Mughal capital in the aftermath of the battle.  Nadir Shah invaded northern India and then attacked Delhi in March 1739. He plundered Delhi and usurped the Peacock Throne with enormous wealth. There was a decisive victory for Nadir Shah which was the "Battle of Karnal". He and his army defeated the Mughals. Of all the downfalls Delhi has faced over the centuries, the biggest has been the looting of Nadir Shah. The reason he gave for the looting was that the Mughal ruler Muhammad Shah insulted him at the royal court in Delhi. He obtained the famous Peacock Throne built by Shahjahan with the legendary Koh-i-Noor in addition to silver and jewels. His invasion was irreparable damage to the Mughal Empire. Later, Ahmad Shah Abdali,  Nadir Shah's successor, also plundered Delhi several times between 1748 and 1747. The Mughal dynasty was in decline. This invasion severely weakened the empire, leading to its downfall.
