Detailed Solution

The salary of the Mansabdars was called jagi. The mansabdars played a crucial role in the Mughal administration. Except for the court, they were appointed to every government department. The word "mansab" refers to a place or position; hence it also refers to a rank in the Mughal mansab system. Both military and civilian officers received mansabs from Akbar based on their accomplishments or state service. He took broad cues from Chingiz Khan's philosophy to grade his officers and organise his army. The region was roughly split under Akbar's reign: khalisa and jagir. The proceeds from the first went to the Imperial Treasury, while the proceeds from the jagir were given to the jagirdars in place of their rank-based salary in cash.
