The Samin movement in Java was led by Surontiko Samin. He organised in north-central Java against the colonial Dutch. Samin of a community in a teak forest started to question the ownership of the state's woodlands. He made the case that the state could not possess wind, water, land, or wood because it was not its creation. When the Dutch came to survey their land, some Feminists protested by lying down on it, while others declined to pay taxes, fines, or do labour. This movement was based on nonviolent resistance.
