The Satnami movement was founded by Ghasidas, who belonged to a low-caste family. Ghasidas, a field worker and Chamar caste member, created the most significant Satnami group in the Chhattisgarh region of central India around 1820. By the end of the nineteenth century, Non-Brahman castes, such as the Satnamis, started coordinating campaigns against caste prejudice and insisted on justice and social equality.
