Detailed Solution

The Dutch followed a scorched earth policy in Java.
It was a method aimed at preventing Japan from using timber from the island of Java. The Dutch burned huge piles of giant teak logs to prevent the Japanese from gaining access to the sawmills. It was done during the Second World War. Scorched earth policy is a military policy that targets the deliberate destruction of property and resources on a wide scale so that an invading enemy cannot use them. It involves a shallow desire for victory or supremacy at any cost besides being petty and pitiful.
