Detailed Solution

The Scottish Highlanders were forbidden to speak their Gaelic language by the British. The creation of the "United Kingdom of Great Britain" in 1707, as a consequence of the Act of Union between England and  Scotland, effectively allowed England to impose its influence on Scotland. English lawmakers started to take control of the British Parliament. Scotland's indigenous culture and political institutions were ruthlessly destroyed as a result of the development of British identity. When the Catholic clans of the Scottish highlands sought to declare their independence, they were brutally suppressed. The Scottish Highlanders were forcibly expelled from their country and were not allowed to speak their native Gaelic language or dress in their traditional garb.
