Dhangars are most properly shepherds, blanket weavers, etc. they are considered scheduled tribes communities. They are usually native of Maharashtra Dhangar belongs to a herding caste of people found in India, mostly in Maharashtra and then Karnataka, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. They are also referred to as Gavali in southern Maharashtra and ahir in northern Uttar Pradesh. The Gavali or Dhangars are found in the coastal strip and practised cattle/buffalo herding and shifting cultivation.
