Detailed Solution

Refraction is the process of bending of light when it enters from one medium to another. It is governed by the two laws of refraction.

The first law of refraction states that the angle of incidence, angle of refraction, and normal all lie in the same plane. Where normal is a perpendicular drawn at the surface of the second medium, the angle of incidence is the angle between the incident ray and the normal, and the angle of refraction is the angle between the refracted ray and the normal.

The second law of refraction is also known as Snell's Law of Refraction. According to this the ratio of the sine of the angle of incidence to the sine of the angle of refraction is always constant for a certain color of light and a given set of media.

For example, If a light ray of red color is passed from air to the glass then the ratio of the sine of the angle of incidence to the sine of the angle of refraction is 1.513 and will always remain constant when a red light ray is passed from air to glass irrespective of the angle of incidence.
