Detailed Solution

The semi-waste areas of West Punjab after being irrigated by new canals, began to be called Canal colonies.
By 1890, a global agricultural economy had begun to take shape, adjusting to complex changes in how people moved around, how money moved, how ecosystems changed, and how technology changed. To convert semi-desert wastelands into productive agricultural lands that could grow wheat and cotton for export, the British Indian government built a network of irrigation canals in Punjab during the 19th century. Canal Colonies were the names of the settlements built close to the newly irrigated areas. In these Canal colonies, peasants from different regions of Punjab arrived and settled. Even cotton farming increased globally to supply British textile manufacturers.
