Jews continued to endure the worst conditions in Nazi Germany. Nazi anti-Semitism had its roots in traditional Christian anti-Semitism. They had a reputation for being usurers and Christ-killers. Before the Middle Ages, Jews were not allowed to possess land. They mostly made a living through trading and lending money. They had designated ghettos in which they resided. Expulsion from the country and sporadic organised violence were common forms of their persecution. Hitler's anti-Semitism, however, was founded on racial ideas that were considered pseudoscientific and claimed that conversion was not the answer to "the Jewish issue." The only way to resolve it was to eradicate them.
