Winnowing is the process of separating the chaff from the grain. It can also be used to get rid of pests in stored grain. In grain preparation, winnowing is usually done after threshing. The winnowing process separates the wheat from the husk. The wheat and husk mixture is thrown from a great height. The husk is removed from wheat by wind or air because it is lighter than wheat grains. Winnowing is a technique for removing dirt particles from grains.
