Detailed Solution

The shifting cultivation of Baigas was banned in 1892. Baigas were a forest community residing in Central India. Once their shifting cultivation was banned in 1892, they petitioned the government. In their petition, they mentioned that they were starving daily and had no food grains. They lacked clothes and had to pass cold nights by the fire. The only wealth they possessed was the axe, and they were deprived of going to the forests now that the Forest Act was passed. So they requested the government for food because they were dying of hunger.
