The Simon Commission was named in honour of its chairman, Sir John Simon. The Simon Commission was appointed in 1927 in response to the nationalist movement. A group of seven British citizens was dispatched to India to investigate constitutional amendments and provide recommendations to the authorities. Indians opposed the Simon Commission because there were no Indians in the Simon Commission. All the members of the Commission were Britishers. Indians responded to this with a movement known as the Anti-Simon Movement with the slogan "Simon, go back" and erected black flags as a welcoming sign.
