Detailed Solution

The soap molecule has a hydrophilic head and a hydrophobic tail.
Soap is the salt of a strong base that is sodium hydroxide and weak acid is a carboxylic acid. A soap molecule consists of two parts- a short ionic part comprising the carboxylate salt --COONa+. This is the polar end. This is water soluble which is the hydrophilic end and therefore, it remains attached to water. A long hydrocarbon chain is a non-polar end and this end is hydrophobic which is a water-repelling end and soluble in oil and grease.
