Bharatiya Janata Party, shortly known as BJP, is one of India's major national political parties, alongside the Indian National Congress. It was founded in response to the Emergency called by Indira Gandhi, the then PM in 1975-1977, and the party draws its source of inspiration from India's ancient culture and values. The ideology of Hindutva, or cultural nationalism, is central to the party's policies, prioritising Indian culture and values against western cultures. It supports positive secularism inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's Sarva Dharma Sambhava doctrine. It means all religions are equal, and the destination of every religion is the same though the path may be different.
