The splitting of white light into its constituent colours when made to pass through a glass prism is called dispersion of light.
Light is a form of energy. We get this energy from the sun which is white in colour. This spectrum of white light consists of seven colours Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red commonly called VIBGYOR. When this white light passes through a glass prism it gets separated into these seven colours. This phenomenon is called dispersion of light.
