Detailed Solution

The Sri Lankan Tamils launched parties and struggles for the recognition of Tamil as an official language.
The Sri Lankan Tamils, also known as Ceylon (old name of Sri Lanka) Tamils or Eelam Tamils, formed several parties and launched various struggles for the recognition of Tamil as an official language. They wanted regional autonomy and equality of opportunity which they were denied only because they were a minority community in Sri Lanka. Sinhalese, the language of the majority community of Sinhala, had the recognition of an official language. The Tamils wanted the same recognition and respect.
