They are free living found in fresh water ponds and ditches or in the damp soil. Euglenoids are characterized by absence of cell wall, but they contain a flexible pellicle made up of protein. They have two flagella a short and a long one. Though they are photosynthetic in the presence of sunlight, when light is not available they behave like heterotrophs.
